Managed Recreational Fisheries, Creating a Sense of Place from the Artificial

Creating an artificial but apparently natural venue that is harmonious to the environment and incorporates appropriate management systems, can enhance the “outdoors” experience by enabling activity that prior to the development may not occur. Ski resorts are a prime example, without chair lifts and associated infrastructure the activity of skiing would be a limited social pursuit.

Applying a marketing approach, an aspect of product creation is the need to understand ones target market. Fishing in wild places is a strong motivating factor for domestic and tourist anglers alike. In terms of “enabling angling” does the development of infrastructure within a natural environment or the creation of an artificial managed fishery limit or enhance “from a consumer motivation point of view” the angling experience?

Currently researching domestic and tourist angler motivations with specific reference to managed fisheries, I would be grateful to receive anglers views on managed fisheries from an experiential perspective.
