Rathcon Trout fishery

Rathcon is a managed rainbow trout fishery close to the village of Grangecon, near Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow. Owned and run by the Paige family, it is a spring fed water rich in feeding which produces hard fighting well conditioned trout. Buzzers, sedge imitations, damselflies, daddy long legs, and the bibio work well here. Bring a floating and a sinking set up to cover all opportunities and be prepared. Do not fish light, put up at least a six pound tippet as these fish run big and can take you to the backing, burned thumbs are a possibility.
